From Commercial Egg Farm to Sanctuary Life

Forty-three hens have been given a second chance at life after being rescued from a commercial egg farm in Orangeville, Pennsylvania.

When the farm lost its egg production contract, thousands of hens faced an uncertain future. Unless rescues and sanctuaries stepped forward, these birds were destined for slaughter.
Thanks to an incredible community of animal advocates, forty-three hens found safety at Indraloka.

For the first time in their lives, the road led somewhere different.
Instead of another production facility, they arrived at the sanctuary.

Healing BEGINS AFTER RESCUE

Rescue is only the beginning. The first weeks at Indraloka are spent in quarantine while our veterinary team carefully evaluates every hen.

Many of the hens are showing signs of the challenges they endured in commercial egg production, including feather loss, painful injuries, chronic stress, and untreated medical conditions. Some hens huddle tightly together. Some remain fearful. Some hesitate to move. Many are only beginning to learn that human hands can offer comfort instead of fear.

With proper nutrition, medical attention, enrichment, and patience, these hens can begin the journey toward healing.
