Development & Operations Assistant | Indraloka Animal Sanctuary

Development & Operations Assistant

Indraloka is seeking a Development and Operations Assistant to join a mission-driven team working to create a more compassionate world for human and non-human animals. We’re looking for someone early in their career (or pivoting into nonprofit work) who is excited to learn, takes pride in doing things well, and wants to grow into a meaningful role in fundraising and operations.

You don’t need to know everything—we can teach you. What matters most is your attention to detail, your sense of ownership, and your genuine enthusiasm for our mission and your part in it.

The Development and Operations Assistant plays a key role in bringing our mission to life each day. This position supports fundraising, communications, marketing, and operational systems that make our work possible.

This is a hands-on, fast-moving role where you’ll learn how a nonprofit functions behind the scenes as well as how fundraising and donor relationships are built and maintained.

You’ll work closely with the Director of Development and the Office Manager and will be trusted with real responsibility. Success in this role comes from being organized, proactive, and genuinely invested in doing meaningful work well. (This is primarily an administrative and fundraising support role, not a hands-on animal care position.)

This role is a great fit for someone who:

  • Takes pride in doing things accurately and thoughtfully—even small details matter to you
  • Is curious and eager to learn, especially about fundraising and nonprofit work
  • Follows through and takes ownership of their responsibilities
  • Feels energized by being part of a mission-driven organization
  • Enjoys staying organized and creating systems that help things run smoothly
  • Is comfortable asking questions and learning as they go
  • Is comfortable taking initiative and trying new ideas, while also following through on details and established processes
  • Enjoys meeting new people and sharing our work with them

This role may not be the right fit for someone who:

  • Is looking for a routine, low-engagement administrative position
  • Prefers minimal structure or follow-through
  • Is not interested in the mission or nonprofit work
  • Wants to work directly with animals

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as a first point of contact for donors, supporters, and the public
  • Support fundraising efforts through donation processing, reporting, and donor communications
  • Assist with events, outreach, and community engagement activities
  • Help maintain organizational systems (files, databases, inventory, communications)
  • Support website updates, email communications, and social media scheduling
  • Provide general administrative and operational support across departments

You’ll be trained on all systems and processes. Over time, there will be opportunities to take on more responsibility based on your interests and strengths. The right person can grow into this role and develop skills in fundraising, communications, and nonprofit operations that support the next stage of their career.

What We’re Looking For:

Indraloka is an animal advocacy organization, and as such, each of our employees is expected to represent the organization and reflect our mission during work functions and while on site.

  • Passion for the mission required.
  • Kindness and compassion for all life is required.

  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle/transportation are required.
  • Criminal history, child abuse, and FBI clearances required.
  • Willing to work flexible hours including weekends, and some holidays.
  • Able to work in an environment with exposure to common allergens including nuts, soy, seeds, as well as bees, wasps, and other insects.
  • High School Diploma. Bachelors Degree a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn
  • Genuine interest in fundraising, nonprofit work, or animal welfare
  • Clear and thoughtful communication skills, including comfort speaking on the phone and in person
  • Comfort using (or learning) basic digital tools like Google Workspace and social media platforms
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks with support
