Some hens arrive at the sanctuary and cautiously wait for the world to come to them.

Not Emelia.

Named after aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, Emelia quickly earned a reputation for loving to fly. While most of the newly rescued hens were still cautiously exploring their surroundings, Emelia was already taking to the air, hopping and fluttering from place to place with surprising confidence.

She didn’t need to be in the recovery stall with the sick and injured hens.

One day, she simply decided she’d rather be there.

Because she was gentle with everyone, we let her stay.

Since then, Emelia has become something of a guardian. When another hen wanders into the recovery stall looking for trouble, Emelia has been known to step in, helping protect the more vulnerable hens before they can be bullied.

But don’t expect her to stay in one place for long.

Emelia is an explorer at heart. She loves spending time with her friends in the recovery stall, but before long she’s off on another adventure, flying farther and more often than any of the other hens. If there’s somewhere new to investigate, chances are Emelia will be the first to get there.

Every sanctuary needs an adventurer.

Emelia reminds us that healing isn’t just about recovering from the past – it’s about discovering the freedom to embrace the future.
